Virtual & Embodied Agents
Architecture and integration of the large software systems behind robots and virtual agents.
Virtual agents, embodied in robots, are often large software systems with numerous modules. Making them work as one is a software architecture challenge:
- How to put the modules together right?
- How to take advantage of ROS or your current middleware?
- How to deal with concurrent events and multi-threading?
- Which APIs to provide to your clients and app developers?
- How to implement the higher-level decision-making?
I have worked on these issues for more than a decade: on the behavior execution pipeline of the NAO and Pepper robots at Aldebaran and SoftBank Robotics Europe, on Semio’s animation tooling, and on the skill system of the Mirokai robots at Enchanted Tools. I love to get into these challenges — while taking care of the legacy.
What I can do for you
- Design or review the architecture of your agent or robot software.
- Build behavior systems: execution pipelines, skill systems, animation.
- Design the SDKs and APIs your ecosystem exposes to developers.
- Get autonomy, interaction and safety to coexist in one system.
